Comparing the Features of Tanning Lamps

Defined Tag:

If you're in the market for a tanning lamp, it probably comes as no surprise that the differences among various lamps can be dramatic, even though the all have the same end goal: to darken your skin. Tanning lamps have been around in one form or another for a number of years, but the ones available for purchase will differ in features, construction, safety, efficiency, and more. When you're ready to look for a tanning lamp, keep the following points in mind.

Let's start with the most basic lamps. These lamps come with only a few settings and are very easy to use; however, you have much less control over the intensity of the exposure you are receiving at any one time. This will make it much more important that you monitor the amount of time you spend under the lamp. Overexposing yourself to too much of the lamplight will lead to serious skin conditions. Even if you already have a deep tan, you will still need to be very careful about the amount of exposure you subject yourself to with this small range of settings.

Safety features are something that can be very important when choosing a tan lamp. You want to make sure the unit will cut itself off, either with the use of a timer, or if the unit suddenly is knocked out of a level position. These two features help to accomplish two things. First, you can set the unit to cut off after ten to fifteen minutes, which means even if you fall asleep, you will not end up with a nasty burn. Second, if the unit cuts off after turning over, there is less chance it will damage the floor, carpet, or any piece of furniture that it comes in contact with. Safety features may cost a little more, but they will easily pay for themselves by way of the security they provide.

Also, check the warranty on the unit very closely. Get the best deal you can on the warranty, including one that provides the greatest amount of coverage for repair and parts replacement. A good warranty is something you never want to use but should have in place on the off chance something comes up. Remember that tanning lamps should be safe, secure, and easy to operate, if you are to get your money's worth from the product.

Not all lamps are created equally, so be prepared to examine your budget and do some research to find the right lamp for you. Safety should always be a priority, regardless of your other needs.
